Fed:Touretski's wife will fight giving prosecution evidence

A court has heard swim coach GENNADI TOURETSKI'S wife will fight moves to compel her
to give evidence for the prosecution in her husband's case.

TOURETSKI, the 51-year-old Russian-born coach of Olympic gold medallists ALEX POPOV
and MICHAEL KLIM, has pleaded not guilty to a charge of possessing the banned steroid
Stanozolol.

A hearing is set down for October 15 to 18.

Prosecutor KEN ARCHER told the ACT Magistrates Court INNA TOURETSKI has indicated she'll
raise the issue of whether she can be compelled to give evidence for the prosecution.

Magistrate MICHAEL SOMES said he'll address this issue and hear an outline from the
prosecution on September 3.

The prosecution will subpoena Mrs TOURETSKI for that date.

The charge followed a police investigation of a burglary at TOURETSKI'S Canberra home
in which a safe containing Olympic and Commonwealth medals was stolen.

TOURETSKI's been suspended on full pay from his duties at the Australian Institute of Sport.
