Vic: Esso workers return to work to repair fire damage
Locked-out Esso workers will return to work today to replace electrical equipment damaged
in a fire this week at the company's Longford gas plant in Victoria's east.
Esso construction subcontractors and workers reached an agreement yesterday to return to work.
Two days ago, up to 300 workers were locked out over a bitter dispute over roster changes.
Monday's electrical fire broke out in a switchroom at the east Gippsland plant. No
one was injured, but gas production was interrupted.
Construction subcontractors want to replace the current seven-days-on, seven-days-off
roster with a new 14-day system. Unions say the move would cause severe family hardship.
